Parched by Heather King - Book 4

Parched
Parched by Heather King is an immediately engrossing memoir of her life; her childhood, how she began drinking at age 13, her two decades of drinking and how she finally stopped.  King is a great writer.  Every word rings true.  She is a little older than I am but as a child of the Seventies, I could relate to everything she wrote.

This book was the perfect one to have with me on a night when I was trapped by a snowstorm and had to sleep in a hospital waiting room.  I couldn't really sleep so I read this book instead.  It made the experience actually enjoyable!  I didn't have my Kindle with me, but God in his mercy arranged things so my husband showed up at the hospital too and had his ipad with him!  So while he slept (he can sleep anywhere!) I read.  I watched King plummet deeper and deeper into the insanity of drinking and the sordid life that went with it.  And the thing is I really felt 'there but for the grace of God, go I.'  The book is funny too and so insightful and descriptive and full of love and longing.

I plan to read King's other book too and I love her blog.

Two thumbs up for Parched.
